This proposal includes the former sixth form building, the outside space surrounding it, and the playing field to the north of the main site.
We are proposing to change the use of the former Portslade Community College sixth form centre in Mile Oak Road.
You may also know the site as the former base of the King’s School.
King’s School has now moved to a new base next to West Blatchington Primary School in Hove. This means the building is no longer being used.
We do not believe it is a good idea to continue using this site for educational purposes. More detail on our reasons for believing this are set out below.
Our proposal – subject to gaining planning permission – is to convert the main school site to use as offices for our social care services.
We want to know your views on this proposal. More details about it are set out below.
Under the proposals the former school playing field would continue to belong to the council – and would continue to be a playing field for use by local people.
We are conducting this consultation in accordance with government rules around changing the use of educational sites.
The views and thoughts collected during this consultation will be presented to the next Children, Young People & Skills Committee meeting on 2 March 2020.
A public meeting to be held at Portslade Town Hall that you can attend to ask any questions that you may have or to make your views known.
