College Conservation Area Character Statement

Closed 17 Nov 2023

Opened 13 Oct 2023

Overview

We are consulting upon a new College Conservation Area Character Statement. The aim of the Character Statement is to define the special interest of the area, through a detailed assessment of its history, character and appearance.

The College Conservation Area was designated in April 1988. This is the first Character Statement for this area.

The consultation draft College Conservation Area Character Statement can be viewed here (opens in a new window) and is also available on the 'questions' page of this consultation.

The Character Statement is intended to assist and guide all those involved in development and change in this conservation area. It will be used by the Council in assessing the design of development in future planning proposals in College Conservation Area.

The character statement should lead to a better understanding of the area's historic development, what makes it the special place it is today and its potential for its future conservation and enhancement.

This draft Character Statement will be available for comment until 11.59pm on Friday 17 November 2023.

What happens next

Following the consultation the council will assess the responses and revise the Character Statement as appropriate.

We then intend to report the final document and a summary of the consultation responses, to the Culture, Heritage, Sport, Tourism & Economic Development Committee on 18 January 2024.
