Overview

A supplementary planning document (SPD) provides advice and guidance on the implementation of policies and proposals contained in the City Plan. The Council is currently updating the Design Guide for Extensions and Alterations SPD 12. The document is being updated to ensure that the highest design quality is achieved in extensions and alterations within Brighton and Hove. To create a high quality proposal good design must be carefully considered from the outset.

Why your views matter

The purpose of this consultation is to encourage feedback from a wide variety of interests and stakeholders on the updated draft of Extension and Alteration SPD. The feedback received will be taken into consideration when shaping the final document. This consultation therefore offers an opportunity to influence the SPD, which seeks to strengthen the design process and ensure that alterations and extensions meet the highest design standards as required by planning policy. 

The Consultation will be live and available for comments from 5 July to 5pm, 16 August 2019. Comments submitted outside of these dates and times will not be accepted.

You can submit your comments on the SPD by completing the on-line survey via the link below. You can also email comments to Planning Policy@brighton-hove.gov.uk. Hard copies of the document can be accessed at the Council's main office at Hove Town Hall, and Libraries during office hours.

What happens next

All comments received through the consultation will be taken into consideration while finalising the SPD. The final SPD will be taken through Council procedure for adoption. Once adopted, the updated SPD will replace the existing document and will be used in determination of planning applications for extensions and alterations.
